Summer Herbal Salve
Beeswax acts as a protective barrier, retaining moisture in the skin and reducing dryness. Not only does it protect the skin, it also allows it to breathe and doesn’t clog pores. Beeswax has anti-inflammatory properties which encourages wound healing. It’s a good source of vitamin A, supporting cell renewal.
Olive Oil provides deep skin hydration, reduces inflammation, puffiness and swelling, and protects against the sun’s UV rays.
Plantain Leaves are packed full of vitamins like A and C and have the ability to help heal damaged or infected skin. Plantain Leaf was once used in Scotland to stop blood flow and heal tissues from sword wounds. It’s also valued by Native Americans for treating insect bites, stings, burns, rashes and wounds.
Burdock Root is known to help with inflammation and circulation but is primarily valued for its cleansing and skin smoothing properties. Applied topically it can soothe poison oak and poison ivy.
Comfrey has been used since Roman Times and contains bone strengthening vitamins and minerals such as vitamin C, calcium and magnesium. Comfrey contains the plant chemicals allantoin and rosmarinic acid. Allantoin speeds up the process of new tissue growth, while rosmarinic acid helps to relieve pain and inflammation. As a topical application, Comfrey relieves skin irritations such as rashes, sunburn, and stings.
